While we may not agree on everything these days, one fact is hard to argue- 2020 is definitely a year unlike any other. Toilet paper is flying off the shelves, we are spending more time home than ever before, and face mask coverings are a necessity. However, what do you do with the mask when it isn’t donned on your face? Do you set it on the table (spreading or picking up germs)? Do you throw it in a bag only to struggle to locate it when you need it most? Do you hope your kiddos will keep it safe instead of misplacing it? The answer?- face mask lanyards… in lots of colors, themes, and designs!
A special thank you to Ribbon by Design for sponsoring this post. As always, I only recommend and share products I 100% love and would recommend to my closest friends and family.
My Need
All it took was my first trip to the store before I realized I was missing a valuable aspect to this mask-wearing need. Upon returning to my car I took off my mask. However, I looked around dumbfounded and confused as to where to best place it. Do I throw it on the ground (ew), do I set it on the seat (not a fan of moving the germs on the outside to the surface of the inside of my car). Do I throw it in my purse (we all know once something goes in there it is hard to be found ever again). What I needed was a face mask lanyard. An easy way to hold my mask while I road in the car from one store to the next.
Fast forward to returning to work. As an occupational therapist in an acute care hospital I wear a mask every minute of my shift with the exception of eating and drinking. However, I was once again faced with that awkward moment when you take off your mask and look around for a solution. A logical place to set your mask where you 1) aren’t infecting the surface you may soon be eating from or 2) picking up more germs in the process when the mask would later be placed back upon your face. Once again, what I needed was a face mask lanyard. An easy way to hold my mask when eating and drinking (keeping it in a safe location).
Not Just Adults
Just like the virus, the need for face mask lanyards does not discriminate based on age.
With children in schools or venturing out in the community, face mask lanyards couldn’t be more valuable. Let’s face it (no pun intended ;)), face masks are difficult enough for adults to keep track of. Try sending a kiddo to school with a face mask and ask them not to set it down on an eating area. Trust them not to set it down where more germs could be picked up. Challenge them not to misplace it in the midst of their playing and fun. Kiddos NEED face mask lanyards.
In truth, my kiddos seldom leave our home (not including the outdoors). With full-time virtual and homeschooling (thanks 2020) and with the hopes to avoid the virus at all costs, they find themselves home more than not. However, all it took was one trip to see their great grandmother (via a social distanced outdoor visit at her senior living facility), and I was desperate to locate a face mask lanyard for them both.
The masks were on, the masks were off. The masks were on. The masks were off. On, off, on off… you get the idea. “Mommy, can you hold this?” “Mommy, where is my mask?” The questions and frustrations grew by the minute. My kiddos needed face mask lanyards and they needed them fast before this mama lost her mind.
