With Halloween right around the corner, the mama bear in me is on overdrive. With a strong desire to make my children’s Halloween as normal and special as possible, I figured it was time to get creative. I decided it best to create a series of small celebrations to be carried out within the company of our small, little family.
A special thank you to PJ Masks for sponsoring this fun Halloween celebration for our family!
Being that my children are 4 and 6, they are aware that Halloween will be different this year. They know that trick-or-treat will be limited (if at all), they know that class celebrations will not occur (virtual and homeschooling over here), and they expect Halloween (or at least as they once knew it to be) to look very different this year. In their mind, Halloween needed “saving,” and what better way to save it than with one of their favorite shows…PJ Masks!
Feeding off the need to “save Halloween,” I decided to plan a fun pre-Halloween celebration to kick off the holiday fun and I’m sharing all the details below!
Sharing the Surprise
Building on the notion of “saving Halloween,” I decided to surprise my daughters with a fun- filled Halloween afternoon. I let them know that while Halloween may look a bit different this year, PJ Masks needed THEIR help to save it! This was done with a special “delivery” from PJ Masks themselves (i.e. Mom). Needless to say, this was met with instant excitement on the part of my 4- and 6-year old’s faces. The note inside explained that while Halloween may look different this year, the magic came in the form of celebrating with family and keeping traditions alive and well within the safety of our home.
Dressing the Part
What better way to help the PJ Masks than to dress the part? Taking the surprise one step further, I told the girls to run to their bedrooms where they found laid out on their beds the entire Owlette costume! Donned in their favorite PJ Mask character, they were ready to save the day with adding to the fun and magic behind the holiday.
*Owlette and more super PJ Masks costumes including Catboy and Gekko are available now! You can find them all here!
Pumpkin Carving Stencils
Now it was time for the classic pumpkin carving. Our pumpkin carving design was simply a no- brainer this year… PJ Masks! By heading to the website here, we simply picked our favorite PJ Masks stencil and downloaded it for FREE. Then we got to carving (in our costumes of course ;)).
Having Fun with Activity Sheets
Time to dig into some PJ Masks themed activities. These fun sheets can also be downloaded for FREE by clicking here. We added them into our pumpkin carving mix allowing the girls to have some fun while we kept the sharper tools to the adults.
Capturing the Day
With the pumpkin carving complete, it was time to make sure we captured the memory! When I found out there was an interactive PJ Mask filter, I knew my children would instantly be sold. (Anyone else have kids who LOVE to trial the different filters on your phone?) This adorable filter changes to find out if your children will receive a trick or a treat from the PJ Masks!
Joining PJ Masks
Lesson given, costumes on, pumpkin carved, and photos captured… only one step remained… joining the PJ Masks themselves! With new PJ Masks episodes on Disney Junior, the girls can truly experience Halloween the PJ Masks way!
Halloween may look different this year, but it doesn’t have to be any less fun. By simply incorporating a little bit of creativity and the help of PJ Masks, your children can help save Halloween and the traditional fun involved!
