The shortest, yet most loving month of the year is upon us… “Hello, February!” As the calendar turns, your child couldn’t be more excited about the idea of creating their very own Valentine’s Day cards for their friends and family. Watching in pride as you witness them pour their love into these precious pieces of paper, you decide you’d love nothing more than to provide them with the same personal gift. However, why stop at one gesture of love when you can create a tradition that extends the entire month leading up to Valentine’s Day? How about a Valentine’s Day tradition!
The Valentine’s Day Tradition of Paper Hearts on the Door
By simply creating 14 unique and personalized paper hearts, you can show your child just how much you love them with a daily heartfelt message and start a fun Valentine’s Day tradition in the process!
How to Start This Valentine’s Day Tradition
Not only is this Valentine’s Day tradition something your child will love, but requires very little expense and time to implement. Simply use pieces of construction paper (I chose pink and red) to cut hearts (any size works, just make sure they are large enough to write your message).
Next, write a loving and unique message on the front of each individual heart.
Lastly, each evening after your child goes to bed secure a new heart to their bedroom door (adding to the ones from previous days- one heart per day). Come Valentine’s Day, 14 individual hearts will surround your child’s door.
When they wake up in the morning your child will start each day during the month of love by reading a message about why you love them. (Is your child not old enough to read? Start the day by reading it to them instead!)
Take the Tradition One Step Further
Does your child love this tradition as much as you do? Then why not expand upon it? Here are some additional fun ideas:
- Allow your child to return the favor by encouraging them to write reasons why they love you and securing them to your bedroom door each night.
- Expand upon sibling love by encouraging them to write reasons why they love their siblings and securing them to each other’s bedroom door each night.
- Encourage your child to share all the reasons why they love their teacher and are grateful for them by having them bring a different heart shaped message to their teacher each day in leading up to Valentine’s Day.
- Help your child share their love for family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) by creating heart messages and texting it to them daily or putting it in the mail.
After all, you doesn’t love receiving a Valentine?!
